The Compliance Officer provides oversight to federal and state mandated plans and training in such areas as right-to-know, exposure control plan, and workplace safety. This is a part-time position working up to 26 hrs per week.

Duties:
  • Serves as the college’s Safety Compliance Officer and works with the college at large to manage compliance issues including the use of hazardous materials
  • Monitors public health advisories and health and safety related compliance issues and advises management on policy and procedure as needed in support of the college strategic plan
  • Periodically reviews and oversees the implementation of mandated plans related to areas such as Blood Borne Pathogens/Exposure Control, Right to Know, Hazardous Waste Management, Hazard Communication, Regulated Medical Waste, Indoor Air Quality, Confined Space Entry, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure & Storm Water Prevention Plans, Energy Control Plan, Welding, Asbestos as well as the Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Conducts or oversees training in Blood-borne Pathogens, Right-to-Know, Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout-Tag out and arranges training for areas such as Confined Space Entry
  • Conducts internal audits and provides guidance in the remediation of safety hazards and implementation of chemical and other safety practices
  • Maintains records of all mandated training's
  • Serves as the contact person and prepares documentation, communication and site visits/audits with external agencies such as Atlantic and Cape May county departments of health, NJ Department of Health, NJ DEP, PEOSH, EPA and OSHA
  • Oversees the handling and disposal of medical waste and prepares appropriate documentation
  • Coordinates the college’s HAZMAT compliance within guidelines
  • Provides college-wide coordination with department supervisors, in the management, labeling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials in cooperation with various departments
  • Monitors accurate completion, submission and filing of Right-to-Know Material Safety Data Sheets/Global Harmonization Standards and Hazardous Substance Fact Sheets
  • Assists with college, local and county initiatives related to safety
  • Serves as a member of the College’s Safe Campus Cross-Functional Committee and as a resource to the Chemical Hygiene Officer and the Facilities/Maintenance Department
  • Performs related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years’ industrial hygiene and /or occupational safety experience preferred
  • Knowledge of environmental science, industrial hygiene and occupational safety    
  • Ability to serve as an internal resource to problem-solve
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office products
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License

Part-time, primarily located at the Mays Landing Campus, this position requires a flexible schedule at each campus and at college events.
